The Family of Leopold & Therese (née Fleischer) STEINDLER

Leopold and Theresa Steindler were the great-grans of two families of Themar’s Jewish community: first, the family of Pauline (née Steindler) and Leopold Müller, and second, the family of Frieda (née Steindler) and Oskar Schwab.

Pauline Steindler married Leopold Müller, born in Themar in 1882; he was a member of one of the founding families of Themar’s Jewish communities. Leopold’s early death in 1924 left Pauline a widow with three children. After the death of Pauline’s father, Moritz, in 1929, Pauline’s mother, Anna/Nanny Steindler (née Rindsberg) joined Pauline in Themar as did her son/Pauline’s brother, Max. Members of the family continued to live in Themar well into the 1930s before Nazi persecution forced them to leave.

Frieda Steindler, Pauline’s younger sister, married Oskar Schwab in the early 1920s. The couple moved from Themar to Schlesingen where they resided until persecution drove them away as well.

The Descendants List below indicates the large family within which the Steindlers of Themar were embedded. Leopold and Therese had nine (9) children.
