Mendel Wertheimer was the eldest child and first son of Jacob and Betti (née Kohler) Wertheimer, b. 1808 in Marisfeld. Sara Gutmann, his wife, was the third child and second daughter of Selig Abraham and Mink/Minna Gutmann, b. 1826 in Gleicherwiesen, On 23 March 1869, Mendel and Sara, and children moved from Marisfeld to Themar.
